Extensions & Garage Conversions

alans_sml.jpgBATTS Building and Decorating can help you unlock the potential in your home by offering extensions and full garage conversions service. Garages are seldom used for what they were originally designed for. Converting a garage is not only one of the most efficient ways to add space to your home, it can also add a considerable amount of value, as it is a proven fact that a garage conversion's value will rise in line with the house price.

BATTS Building and Decorating work with you every step of the way, from the moment you invite us into your home, we start thinking about the right design to meet your requirements. In comparison to building an extension or a loft conversion, converting your garage will most likely create the maximum floor space for the minimum expense. In addition, each conversion is skillfully installed by our qualified craftsmen who have years of specialist experience.

garage_conver_sml.jpgYou will already have an idea of what you want to convert your garage into; however here's a few ideas. The options are endless, but here are some ideas to get you started, the same applies to any extension you might fancy:

  • Another lounge
  • An extra bedroom with or without en-suite facilities
  • A 'granny annexe' (Double Garages)
  • A children's play-room
  • A larger kitchen
  • A home cinema
  • A dining room
  • A home-gym
  • A home-office
  • Or just an extension to an existing room

90% of garage conversions do not need planning consent as you are not changing the footprint of the building. A very small number of houses, usually new developments with little or no parking have to keep the garage area as a parking space. In these circumstances planning consent would be required and an alternative space would have to be created. This could mean extending the original driveway or converting part of the garden to a parking space. As part of the service we can complete a customer development questionnaire in order to get the information in writing from the local planning department.

If you are opting for an extension, some do not require planning permission under permitted development. Please see http://www.planningportal.gov.uk for advice on what falls within permitted development or what projects require full planning concent. You will always require Building Control to oversee the project and to certificate the project on completion.

Extensions can completly change the look and feel of the house, adapting to make it yours and service all your requirements for you and your family. Again, they quite often add value to the house but this shouldn't be your first initial requirement. We are happy to give an estimate for your project before you go down the route of spending out on architects designs and planning in case the drawings do not match your budget.
